it's another horse accident or TWO... :( My sweet Baby Sam fell off his horse Saturday @ the last regular rodeo of the season. I missed it because I TRY to strictly REST on Saturdays and Sundays so I can make it through the week @ school with mono. By the time they all got home Sam was over it and proudly showing off his "back eye" I've been told it's NOT "cool" to run out in the pen or even out onto the baseball field when one of your children is hurt. I simply can't sit back. I'm sure I would have been over the fence in record time to get to him. That's my job. We went to Nana & Papa's for lunch and Abbey's birthday yesterday. Sam went around to each and everyone and showed off his eye. I guess for boys that's some kind of trophy! Speaking of trophies....Ben won $120 Saturday in his age group. Let me not forget to mention that he is the YOUNGEST in his age group! This is the 2nd rodeo he's come home w/ prize money. He won the same amount the last rodeo in July. Graham is not competing because his horse is down w/ a hurt leg.
On to the 2nd horse accident... I had to work the football jamboree Friday night (one of my many new "hats"). I pulled down to the roping pen when I got home and noticed Shelly had a "pained" look on his face. I asked what was wrong only to find out that he had been thrown off a horse AGAIN. Graham loudly exclaimed..."Daddy, I thought we were going to keep it a secret!" Part of me wishes they had! I would have figured it out. He's been hobbling around and moaning. I can't seem to get him to go to the doctor, but I've lived w/ him long enough to know that when he feels it's time to go he'll go. I hope he hasn't slipped one or more of the bulging disc that were already aggravating him. Part of me would like to load up every saddle and hide them for the next year until Shelly is 100% well. The other part knows that horses are his life and his job and he would be one miserable man if he couldn't do what he loves. I do hope that he will hold off on training all the two year old colts for a while. He's several months behind because of his leg and that's a stress to him in itself. I know he also wants to be able to teach the boys all the in's and out's of roping now that they are all showing an interest. The pride and pure joy on his face when he's schooling them and they "get it" makes my heart swell. So, with all that said, I pray my "very own cowboy" is back up and going soon. As much as I want him to take it easy, I do love to see him on a horse. Even after almost 15 years my heart still skips a beat.
